Google Authorship 2.0 Has Arrived

Back in June, I wrote a post discussing Google’s plans to “simplify” the way authorship was displayed. In case you missed it, Google announced that in addition to hiding circle counts, they would also be removing the coveted authorship photos from search results. This came as a big blow to many SEOs and site owners, since the authorship photos allegedly helped to increase click-through-rate.

Is Google Authorship Dead?

Google has decided to remove the authorship photo, as well as the author’s Google+ circle count from search results. This is disappointing news for many SEOs, since many of them implemented authorship specifically for the benefit of the author photo appearing in search results, after several studies concluded that authorship markup can significantly increase click-through-rate (CTR). But according to John Mueller, CTR is impacted by removing the photo.

Google Launches Domain Registration Service

According to researchers at Google, 55 percent of small businesses don’t have a website. Google is making it their mission to change that and make it easier than ever for businesses to launch and grow their business online. Google Domains will offer additional web-based services, such as domain privacy and protection, web hosting, tech support, and eventually CMS functionality.

Tech giants, such as Google and Facebook, have led the way in creating powerful but cost-effective data centers that work efficiently with could-based servces. On Monday Microsoft announced that they will soon follow suit, revealing improvement plans to their current servers that will accelerate the the efficiency of it’s services, including their proprietary search engine Bing.
